美國海軍首艘Zumwalt級USS Zumwalt(DDG-1000)號飛彈驅逐艦正式舉行命名典禮,自2009年2月11日開始建造採用182.9公尺先進技術和匿蹤穿浪逆船舷艦體設計可減少及降低雷達偵測其建造費用

約35億美元,命名是紀念已故美國海軍上將Admiral Elmo Zumwalt,曾經是美國海軍最年輕擔任第19任海軍作戰部長職位(1970年7月1日~1974年6月29日),USS Zumwalt(DDG-1000)號飛彈驅逐艦

將在今年年底前交付美國海軍預計在2016年服役.

BATH, Maine (April 12, 2014) Secretary of the Navy (SECNAV) Ray Mabus and other honored guests attend the christening ceremony for the Zumwalt-class guided-missile destroyer (DDG) 1000. The ship, the first of three Zumwalt-class destroyers, will provide independent forward presence and deterrence, support special operations forces and operate as part of joint and combined expeditionary forces. The lead ship and class are named in honor of former Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Elmo R. "Bud" Zumwalt Jr., who served as chief of naval operations from 1970-1974.
